Dear Mr. Graham,
Thank you for contacting Habitat for Humanity. Habitat is a nonprofit, Christian housing ministry that believes that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. We build and repair houses all over the world using volunteer labor and donations. Our partner families purchase these houses through no-profit, no-interest mortgage loans or innovative financing methods.
Currently, more than 1,500 affiliates in the United States and about 70 national organizations around the world coordinate Habitat efforts to build, rehabilitate and repair homes with those who cannot access conventional home loans. Through their work, Habitat has served more than 800,000 families.
Habitat does not have a program in Togo. At present Habitat is not looking to expand its presence beyond the countries it currently operates in. This is primarily because to open a new Habitat operation in a new country requires a large and sustainable level of funding not just from Habitat but also from an established organization in country who would partner with Habitat. At this time, Habitat does not have the financial or human capacity to commit to establishing new operations.
Thank you again for contacting Habitat for Humanity.
